Tip 989 (for men): Encourage women to speak up when they disagree or have their own agendas to discuss.
Tip 990 (for men): Identify your opinions as such rather than stating them as irrefutable facts.
Tip 991 (for men): Don't continually change conversational topics offered by women.
BODY LANGUAGE
Men take up more space than women, using big, angular, and forceful gestures out and away from their body. They hold their fingers together and often point. They extend arms and legs and make possessions (books, papers, briefcases) an extension of themselves to protect their territory. They lean back when they listen, tend to shift their positions occasionally, and appear to be more in control of their environment.
Women tend to pull themselves in, hold their arms and legs close to their bodies, and make small and easy gestures toward rather than away from their bodies. They hold their fingers apart and use circular hand movements. When listening, they lean forward. Generally they move more fluidly, with trunks of their bodies turning as their head, arms, and feet do. They gather their possessions closely around them so as not to infringe on others' territory and often sit more quietly and rigidly.
Tip 992 (for women): Take up more space.
People who take up more space seem more confident, relaxed, and powerful. "Withdrawing into yourself" may make you seem less competent and knowledgeable.
Tip 993 (for men): Be careful not to intimidate people by size and bigger-than-life gestures and motions.
Avoid taking up more than "your fair share" of space in a work station or meeting environment so as not to appear arrogant or aggressive.
